Does Dynamics 365 include payroll?

For most countries, standard Dynamics 365 does not include a complete statutory payroll. Payroll is added with a payroll product or an integration, and for South Africa and Southern Africa that is where PayrollFlow 365 comes in.

The short answer

Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations give you the general ledger, purchasing, sales, inventory, projects, approvals and reporting. They do not, for most countries, ship a complete statutory payroll: the earnings, deductions, contributions, returns and payslips that a legal employer has to run every month.

Payroll is therefore added: by integrating a payroll product you already use, by installing a partner payroll app, or by running a payroll that sits inside Dynamics 365. For South Africa and Southern Africa, our option is PayrollFlow 365, a global, parameter-driven payroll that runs on Business Central and Finance & Operations.

What Dynamics 365 gives you out of the box

The platform covers everything around payroll and the posting that follows it.

General ledger with dimensions for department, cost centre and project
Employee and vendor records, and approval workflows with segregation of duties
Human resources features such as leave, benefits and positions, depending on the product you license
Bank accounts, payment files and reconciliation
Power BI reporting on the live ledger

Your three options

Which option is right depends on the number of countries, how complex your pay rules are, and whether payroll already runs well somewhere else.

Keep your payroll product and integrate it, so each pay run posts to the ledger by dimension
Install a partner payroll app for a single country
Run PayrollFlow 365: one payroll core for every country in the group, inside Dynamics 365

Payroll in South Africa and Southern Africa: the local layer

A payroll in South Africa and Southern Africa has to handle PAYE, UIF, SDL and COIDA. PayrollFlow 365 carries published statutory content for South Africa, and the same core runs Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique as parameters set with you and your adviser.

What to decide before you choose

Five questions settle most payroll decisions.

How many countries and legal entities will run payroll in the next three years?
Who owns statutory change when rates or rules move, you, your payroll provider or your partner?
Do you need payroll costs by project, cost centre or department in the ledger?
Which bank file formats and returns must the payroll produce?
Is there a payroll product that already works and should stay?

How an engagement runs

It starts with a 45-minute consultation, then a discovery and fit-gap workshop on your own processes. You receive a written fit-gap and a phased plan before a programme is agreed. Four phases follow, each with something you can use and review.

01

Discover

Process workshops, data audit, and a fit-gap against the standard product.

02

03

04

Support

What drives the cost: users, legal entities and currencies, integrations, data migration and the gaps found against standard. See how pricing works or run the three-minute readiness score.
