SARS, VAT and tax compliance in Dynamics 365.

A South African ledger answers to SARS every month. The question is whether VAT201, EMP201 and provisional tax are reports from the ledger, or rebuilds from exports.

← South Africa hub

The recurring obligations

The ledger has to support the filings that recur.

VAT201 returns at 15 per cent standard rate, with zero-rated and exempt supplies kept distinct, on the vendor's filing category
EMP201 monthly employer declarations
Provisional tax (IRP6) twice a year, with an optional top-up
Annual income tax returns and the supporting schedules
Withholding taxes on certain cross-border payments

What the ledger has to record

Tax treatment per line: standard, zero-rated, exempt, out of scope, and capital goods. Input tax supported by valid tax invoices. Import VAT recorded from the customs documents. Foreign-currency transactions translated at documented rates. The ability to rebuild every figure on the return from the underlying transactions.

Where South African e-invoicing stands

Several African authorities require invoices to be submitted in real time. DigiTaxFlow 365 lists those authorities, and South Africa is not among its current connectors. We track SARS developments and design the posting process so a submission step can be added without redesigning the ledger. Check the current position with SARS before committing to a date.

Our setup checklist

This is the order we configure and test in, so the first return from the new system is one you can check line by line.

Confirm VAT registration, filing category and accounting basis
Map tax codes to the VAT201 fields
Default tax codes from the item, vendor or customer
Configure import VAT and foreign-currency handling
Reconcile the VAT control account monthly, not at filing time
Parallel-run one period and reconcile to the legacy return
Agree period lock procedures with finance and your tax practitioner

How an engagement runs

It starts with a 45-minute consultation, then a discovery and fit-gap workshop on your own processes. You receive a written fit-gap and a phased plan before a programme is agreed. Four phases follow, each with something you can use and review.

01

Discover

Process workshops, data audit, and a fit-gap against the standard product.

02

Design

Solution blueprint, integration map, and the extensions we will actually need.

03

Deploy

Configuration, migration rehearsal, role-based training, UAT and phased cutover.

04

Support

Hypercare, managed services, client portal, scheduled optimisation reviews.

What drives the cost: users, legal entities and currencies, integrations, data migration and the gaps found against standard. See how pricing works or run the three-minute readiness score.
