The short answer

SASRA returns are easiest when each number is a report from the ledger rather than a figure assembled from exports. SaccoFlow 365 includes report layouts for the SASRA annexes and forms that the product supports, drawn from live Business Central data. You still confirm the formats and the sign-off with your finance team and auditor.

What SASRA asks of deposit-taking SACCOs

The Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority supervises deposit-taking SACCOs under the Sacco Societies Act. Those SACCOs submit periodic returns on deposits, loans, risk classification, insider lending, complaints and agency banking, on dates set by the Authority. Formats and due dates change, so always check the current requirements with SASRA and your auditor.

The returns SaccoFlow 365 includes

Return Frequency
Annex 1 Loans, Annex 2 FOSA, Annex 3 Deposits As of a date
Form 4 Risk Class As of a date
Sectoral Classification As of a date
Insider Lending Return As of a date
Form 3 Deposits Monthly
Form 9 Insider Monthly
Agency Return Monthly
Form 11 and Form 12 Complaints Quarterly

Forms 3, 9, 11, 12 and the Agency Return print in the Authority's layout, with the authorising and countersigning officers entered once on the analytics setup card. The annexes, Form 4, the sectoral classification and the insider lending return are summary reports.

What has to be true for the numbers to be right

  • Loan classification and provisioning run on the same loan ledger that the returns read.
  • The complaints register is kept up to date, because Forms 11 and 12 come from it.
  • Agency transactions are recorded, because the Agency Return reads them.
  • Opening balances are reconciled to the ledger at go-live.

The returns are only as good as the registers behind them. A system can print a form. It cannot make the SACCO keep its complaints register.

What we do not claim

We do not claim that SaccoFlow 365 is approved or certified by SASRA, and we do not submit returns on your behalf. The product is in preview. The returns are part of what we test with you in a pilot, against your own data and the current SASRA templates.
