One click is a data-model outcome
Funder reports are late because the dimensions were designed for the accountant, not the donor. Programme, funder, grant and budget line have to be first-class dimensions, applied at posting, not tagged afterwards. If a finance officer can post a payment without a grant, you do not have a reporting problem. You have an open door.
Global NGOs add a second failure: each country builds its own grant workbook. The HQ pack is a merge. Donors notice. A Dynamics 365 rollout for a multi-country NGO is the same design problem as a commercial group: one template, many statutory books, and a grant layer that travels.
Where country programmes go wrong
Grants tracked in a spreadsheet beside the ledger. Budgets approved in email and never loaded. Field offices posting in local currency with no revaluation policy. Procurement that cannot see remaining grant budget at requisition. That is how you get a clean local audit and a late donor report.
We see the same pattern when a European HQ implements first and "Africa can adapt". The HQ chart has no room for donor budget lines. Country teams invent tags. One-click reporting dies before the second country goes live.
The design we ship
Load the grant agreement as data. Hold the budget in the system. Enforce it at requisition, not at the donor's deadline. My Grant Management 365 and My Procurement 365 exist to make that the default on Business Central — and the same dimension discipline applies when the group is on Finance & Operations.
Payroll, tax and disbursements still have to post into those dimensions. That is why our payroll and UDG products are built to land in the same books. A global NGO rollout that treats payroll as a side system will never produce a funder report that matches the trial balance.
What to demand from the partner
Ask whether a field office can raise a PO that exceeds the grant. Ask whether HQ can produce a donor pack without exporting. Ask whether Kenya, South Africa and a European entity share one dimension set. If any answer is a workaround, the implementation will not scale.
